How I Built This Website and Changed My Life

As you may have gathered from the rest of my website, I'm about helping people live their lives to the fullest.

That goes for me, too. I'm about helping me live my own life to the fullest! And this website is helping me do that.

I'm 53 (as of this writing). I spent over 20 years as a professional writer, working primarily in higher education fund-raising. I always felt that this was honorable work, and that I was helping a lot of people by doing it. The problem was--I was miserable.

So, at 49, after decades of complaining about my job, I decided to make a change. I decided to "go for" what I really, truly wanted to do--energy healing. I had been doing Reiki for years, and had also studied Healing Touch, and had experienced amazing results from energy work, both as a giver and as a receiver.

Within a couple of years, I had gone to massage school (that's a whole story in itself!), quit my job, and opened a private holistic healing practice doing energy work.

To answer client questions and to make the benefits of energy healing more accessible to a wider audience, I wanted to build a website.

There was a bit of problem here, though. Though a seasoned web user, I knew absolutely nothing about building websites, HTML, web hosts, domain names.........and it all seemed impossibly complicated to me.

Just nosing around on the web, I started to find some really cool websites, chock-full of fantastic information. Oddly, I thought, there was a common thread--they were built through an outfit called "Site Build It."

I looked into it, and it seemed pretty cool. And they promised that I didn't need to know anything about HTML or site building software to get a site up. But the coolest part was--their integrity. I really liked their values.

And so--though I am by nature an incredibly cautious (and frugal) person--I took the plunge and put my money down, and signed up for Site Build It. And wow, am I glad I did.

I was, as Site Build It (SBI) promised, able to put up a website. I'm not very technical, and yes there was a learning curve--but it was totally doable. And really, I had hardly any frustrating moments at all. They make it incredibly easy.

This website--www.the-energy-healing-site.com--is the result of my efforts to date. And I'm just getting started! There is so much I am still doing and learning through Site Build It to make my website not just a website--but also a web-based business.

Because Site Build It isn't just a site builder, or a web host. It's an integrated service that teaches you to build a web-based business, and gives you an amazing array of tools and educational resources to do it.

Really--I feel like I'm getting a masters degree in something. This is one of the most amazing learning experiences I've ever had!

And it's changing my life. For the first time in my life, I can imagine being truly financially independent, and feeling truly financially secure. Because I can see how I can use my love of writing and research to build businesses that will support me--with integrity.

Because that's the final thing that sold me on SBI and makes me such a strong supporter of it, and makes me want to share it with the people I care about:

INTEGRITY. I love these peoples' values.

The whole SBI concept is built on a rock-solid foundation of old-fashioned integrity. They emphasize throughout that this is not a get-rich-quick scheme. It's hard work. And, they emphasize even more strongly that your website--your business-must be built on a foundation of service to your site visitors. Service must come first. You must offer your readers something of value. You have to care about your readers. And it can't just be a show--it has to be real. Wow!

So that's my story to date. I'll update this regularly as my new website grows, and as I start to build others. (Yes! I have two other websites in the planning stages! And I'm so excited--if only there were more hours in the day!)

P.S. No, it's not the cheapest way to get a website up. You can do it less expensively. But I don't think that anyone else offers the comprehensive set of tools, or the support, or the education, or the community, that SBI offers. The value for the money is tremendous. You get more than just a "site builder." You don't need to worry about looking for separate hosting, paying for a separate keyword research tool, handling site submissions, integrating autoresponders, etc. Site Build It does it all.

And--Site Build It is about way more than just getting a website up. It's about building an on-line busines. And online profits require more than just having a collection of Web pages. SBI includes all the tools and a proven process required to build a long-term, profitable e-business. (There are many ways to earn money from a website, I've learned. Some of them are pretty much passive, once you've set them up. Pretty cool!

Even if you decide not to "monetize" your site, as SBI calls it, SBI can teach you how to make a site that does a fantastic job of supporting your grounded, local business. That's how my website is serving me at this point, though I do intend to incorporate some services that will serve my readers and generate an income stream in the future. But for right now--I have--(I built!--I'm so proud of that!) a website that really does generate new clients for me.

My husband had a fancy-pants designer build a website for him, and my husband doesn't like the site very much, can't make changes to it, and--get this--the designer didn't even put keywords in. He didn't know about keywords, let alone how to use them so that potential customers searching for his services would find him! The website is basically useless, except as a sort of electronic portfolio!

I looked into doing another, simple site without SBI, because it looked much cheaper, and just gave up in frustration. Not exactly user-friendly, and the total cost, including everything I would have needed to buy--would have raised the true cost much closer to SBI's all inclusive fee.

In closing--all the best to you. May you live your life to the fullest.
